Post-Jam Release! + Softlock Bug Fixed!
the kitchen scene from the updated version of the game
Post-Jam Update!!!
Holy hell was this more work than expected! This game did very poorly in the GoGodotJam 3, but that's mainly because I was taking a more artistic approach to the theme whereas the community was looking for a more explicit interpretation. I took an L there. But I really like this project and believed I could polish it a bit more. Especially with some of the GLARING BUGS that were an issue for many of the players during the jam.
Request from The Queen Herself
I would really appreciate feedback on this version of the game! I need to know what I am doing well and where I could improve. Please please please let me know if you come across big problems, or if there was something you enjoyed! I really do care about this feedback because it helps me make more enjoyable games for people.
Also, if you make a video using this game, I would really appreciate a link to the video (you can post it in the comments forum section). I enjoy seeing people enjoy my game <3
Here's the list of solved bugs
Softlock Bug Solved (Mostly)
Due to the nature of the Godot Physics Engine, smaller objects have a harder time being simulated physically. Especially when trying to collider against large objects. Because of this, there was a soft-lock bug in the jam version of the game where the players could drop the key through the floors or walls of the map. Which meant they had to restart. The solution I found was to revamp the collider shapes on the level geometry and to simply make the collider on the small but important objects bigger to keep it in bounds. This does create a somewhat unrealistic appearance to some objects, but I much prefer 'looks weird' to 'completely breaks the game'
Ending
The jam version didn't really have a coherent ending. I added an ending and a credits scroll so it's obvious. I hope this change is enjoyable for players <3
Materials & Textures
In the original version I had a few materials/textures that I reused all over the place to reduce the need to process more textures into a usable state. This version has updated textures on pretty much every surface of the game.
Subtitles Fix
There was a bug with my subtitles addon in the jam version which failed to map the spatialized subtitles to the screen properly. This version includes a fix to that addon, which will be pushed over to the addon for people to use.
Graphics Settings
Options for graphics settings should be more coherent and display in a preview in the options menu
Controls Settings
Full controls remapping is enabled. This includes mapping buttons to what is processed as mouse motion. This should enable players to use pretty much any input device they desire with minimal effort.
Gamepad Support
The controls for the game support gamepad inputs by default. I found that off-brand controllers seem to have their mappings skewed whereas official controllers (I used a PS4 Dualshock) seem to map perfectly. The controls settings should be available to tweak any issues you come across
Music
I created some musical tracks for the main menu as well as a light drone for the gameplay.
